Energy Day in your area

posted by enigin in Enigin News, General

What is an Energy day? I had not heard of one before and found some information online about a scheme in place with the European Commission, for Sustainable Energy Europe.

You can arrnage to have a local Energy Day or even Week. It is an action aiming to involve the wider public in a wide range of activities related to the production or use of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency. Usually organised at a local, regional or national level for a specified period, the types of activities may vary, but normally include one or more of the following :

Enigin is the smarter way to go

In a recent survey taken of consumers for utility companies, questions have been raised about Smart Meter Energy Savings.

Smart meters are being used by utility companies to “monitor” household energy usage, it gives them the ability to change tariffs remotely, take meter readings remotely and therefore save the utility company time and money. But is it a better option for the customer?

Enigin: A ‘Cool’ Solution

Walking up and down aisles in shopping centers can be a real eye opener! Especially when it     comes to the chilled section, where all the fridges and freezers are, filled with a multitude of tempting products to choose from!

With energy prices soaring, more and more as each year goes by, the running cost of these appliances would push any supermarket owner to do without them!

Yet, for them like for restaurants, bars or hospitals, refrigeration is not an option, it’s a must.

Enigin PLC  aims to reduce business’ energy  consumption and costs by offering energy efficient products, using  the latest technology available. Refrigeration is one of Enigin PLC’s areas of expertise, along with  lighting, motor  appliances and air conditioning.

Refrigeration require colossal amounts of energy to lower the temperature of a substance and then maintain that temperature on a continual basis.
Consequently, refrigerators and freezers can waste up to 30% of their energy and run 50% more cycles than necessary to do the job they are initially designed to do!

To have a clearer idea of why refrigeration is so energy-consuming,  here is some technical information. The process, called a cycle, begins with the compressor switching on, and it ends by lowering the air temperature until the set temperature is met. In some cases, cycles can occur up to 20 times/hour!

There is a thermostat inside the fridge which monitors the ambient temperature so as to regulate when to switch on and off. The problematic thing is, circulating air temperatures heats up a lot faster than food temperature, and this ends up making the refrigeration unit work harder than it should to keep the products at the right temperature. It comes as no surprise, logically, that this problem leads to consuming vast amounts of excess energy, as well as wearing out the equipment prematurely.

Have you ever noticed a slight noise upon closing your fridge door, after having opened it to retrieve a product? This noise indicates that the compressor has been triggered and that another cycle is underway, regardless of the fact that product temperature has not increased. Only the air temperature has. This happens even if the door has only been opened a very brief period of time. This whole process results in enhanced consumption of energy equating to higher energy bills, which is the problem Enigin has the solutions to.

Enigin can counterattack this phenomenon using what they call the  ‘CUES’ (Chiller Unit  Energy Saver). CUES, originally elaborated to  improve food safety and backed with a  NSF seal of approval, is an  invaluable energy saver. It regulates the temperature based on the food temperature, rather than on the air’s! This eliminates wastage all while keeping the products at the correct temperature constantly.

With Enigin PLC’S CUES, an amazing 30% is saved on energy costs, if  not more. Needless  to say, it is good for the planet and also  extends the life of your refrigerators and freezers.

Enigin PLC’s CUES is really ‘cool’!
